Built on the Western Wyoming Community College campus Black Butte Alternative High School was built as a collaboration with Sweetwater County School District No. 1. The college was insistent that Black Butte blend in with the existing award-winning architecture on site. Not only does the school blend, but its location allows the students to utilize the college library, café, and take college classes. The model for the school was based on 21st-century learning modalities. They wanted education on display with open flexible classrooms for collaboration and windows into the classrooms.
